A biosphere reserve is a designated area for conservation purposes. Some such areas are:
Cold Desert – Located in Himachal Pradesh, this covers the Pin Valley National Park, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary to name a few.
Nanda Devi – Uttarakhand boasts of this natural reserve. It includes the Nanda Devi peak and the Rishi glacier. Bears, leopards, deer etc are the protected species in this area.
Dihang – It is situated in Arunachal Pradesh and was established in 1998. It hosts sub – tropical forests, pine forests, alpine meadow and rare animals like red panda, red ghoral, mishmi takin to name a few.
It is always good to know about the natural reserves of one’s own country. It not only increases the knowledge but proper awareness also increases the safe keep of these preserved natural sites.
